There is no admission fee to visit this location. The harbour walk from Sydney to Balmoral passes this lookout. It’s also possible to drive and park near this location. There’s a bus service that operates along Middle Head Road - the bus stop is about 800 metres from the lookout. At this location, you can read plaques that highlight the location’s history:
“Australia’s Aboriginal tribes attached great importance to some particular headland…to practice their ceremonies, settle their disputes, and arrange matters appertaining to the welfare of the tribe. Georges Head was often the scene of these meetings” - Town and Country Journal, 7 October 1871.
“Port Jackson I believe to be, without exception, the finest and most extensive harbour in the universe, and at the same time the most secure” - John White, surgeon-general, First Fleet, 26 January 1788.

The Carcoar Dam is a family friendly location. It’s a popular place for people to visit to fish and participate in water sports. There are toilets located near the shoreline of the dam. Plenty of parking. Make sure you head around to the southern side of the dam and drive your vehicle across the wall of the dam. We visited at Christmas time and there were about 40 vans parked on the shoreline - it’s a popular camping location.
This cafe / takeaway store is amazing. Possibly the best in Granville. Food is always fresh. Coffees are excellent - and made quickly so as to not slow-down commuters. Prices are excellent - much cheaper than the price you would pay for food in Sydney’s CBD. I regularly buy my lunch from here and take it to work. Staff are efficient and friendly. COVID-safe policies are in place at this cafe. It is located near the Opal Card barriers above the railway station. They open really early everyday - like, before 5am.
Lots of people come here when they're researching their family history. The reading room is very popular. There's off-street parking here. Buses from Mount Druitt and Penrith train stations stop outside this facility. The staff at the NSW State Archives are very helpful. There is no cafe or kiosk here, but there is a kitchen located on level 1 which the public can use. Bags are not allowed inside the Reading Room - you can leave the bags in the room on level 1 - the NSW State Archives supplies lockers that take a $2 coin as a deposit.
